<p><a name="index-object-file-format-24"></a>The <span class="sc">gnu</span> assembler can be configured to produce several alternative
object file formats. For the most part, this does not affect how you
write assembly language programs; but directives for debugging symbols
are typically different in different file formats. See <a href="Symbol-Attributes.html#Symbol-Attributes">Symbol Attributes</a>.
